In a shockingly predictable move, a Tennessee judge has ruled that construction must stop on a mosque being built in Murfreesboro. Chancellor Robert Corlew III issued his opinions on Tuesday that the plans for the mosque, which has been vehemently opposed by local “critics of Islam” for the last two years, are “null and of no effect” because “inadequate” notice was given for the public meeting in which the plans were approved by the Rutherford County Regional Planning Commission. Unfortunately, that excuse is a fairly blatant smokescreen to (poorly) disguise the fact that this is basically just a slap in the face to the builders of the mosque. Tennessee law does require that “adequate notice” be provided before all public meetings, but does not clarify what qualifies as adequate.
